After the recent tragedies in France – 130 people killed and 300 severely injured – after the bombing of a Russian Airbus killing another 224, after another 45 people killed in Beirut, and after all the other Islamic attacks in Paris, Brussels, London, Madrid, Tunisia and elsewhere, and in the ongoing horrors lived every day in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, millions of people around the world are wondering, how do we stop this? What about this do we not understand?
To defeat this hideous malady we must first understand it. And we must understand ourselves, how we got to this tragic place. As Sun Tzu said in The Art of War, “Those who know neither the enemy nor themselves will invariably be defeated.”
This is why I wrote Holy War. To help everyone understand the causes of Islamic fundamentalism and jihad. Holy War is based on my own experiences in the war zones of Lebanon, Syria, the Sinai, and in other Middle Eastern countries. It sees jihad from varying viewpoints: an American journalist working as a British spy, a French commando intent on revenge, a Palestinian woman guerrilla determined to destroy Israel and the West, a Hezbollah terrorist trying to impose Islamic law on the world, a young woman teacher trying to make the world a better place.
It is through their eyes that you, the reader, live this conflict. You are in the middle of it, day by day, minute by minute:
- “One of the best reads of 2014” (NetGalley Reviews)
- “If you are looking to get a driver’s seat look at the landscape of modern conflict, holy wars, and the Middle East then this is the perfect book to do so.” (Masterful Book Reviews).
- “The smells, taste, noise, dust, and fear are communicated so clearly … a brutal and honest account that sets out to describe the war in the Middle East without leading the reader in any direction, giving each side a history of their own.” (Great Book Escapes)
- “A gripping tale of passion, hostage-taking and war.” (Evening News, UK)
To give everyone the chance to understand our present dangers more clearly, my publisher has reduced the price of the Holy War eBook to $0.99 for a limited time only.
